Three Plazas on Dearborn Street is an introduction to the evolution of style, design and economies of a post-WWII city that rebuilt itself…again. Strengthening Chicago as the seat of mid-century Modern architecture.
It is from these three distinct plazas that tour participants will learn about how design and technologies evolved by comparing structures over time and how they create an integral link within the Loop.

Joann Sondy, architecture docent and designer, will guide participants on a 2-hour of Daley Plaza, Exelon Plaza and Federal Center Plaza; each plaza offering 360ยบ view of buildings from a variety of styles, structure and ornamentation; Chicago School, Beaux Arts, Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern and Contemporary. Chicago’s world-renowned public sculptures by Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall and others.
The tour will meet at EXPO 72, 72 East Randolph Street. After a brief introduction, we’ll proceed to Daley Plaza, next destination will be south to Exelon and conclude the tour at Federal Plaza (Dearborn Streeet between Adams and Jackson streets).
Walking route is approx. 1 mile (1.6 km). Accessible via public transit {preferred} and/or public parking. Walking distance to washrooms and restaurants. Handicap accessible. In case of severe inclement weather, the tour will utilize Chicago Pedway system reducing exposure.
No refunds for inclement weather.
It is recommended that you travel light, wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes appropriate for an urban walk; ability to climb stairs maybe needed.
